Royal-Bafokeng-Stadium, Rustenburg

Build in: 1999
Capacity: 42000

Royal-Bafokeng-Stadium The Royal-Bafokeng stadium will be one of the venues for the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and is named after the people of the Bafokeng who live around Rustenberg. In 1999 the Bofokeng won a lawsuit which guaranteed them 20 % of the platin which is extracted in their tribal area. Thereby the Bofokeng became one of the biggest owners of platin mines in this region. The Royal-Bafokeng sports palace provides 42000 seats after having been completed.

Within the qualification for the World Cup in 2002, the S.A national team played against Burkino Faso and won 2:1. Besides the stadium was often venue for Premier Soccer League games although Rustenburg does not have a team in there.

The stadium is located about 25 minutes away from Sun City and 30 minutes away from Pilanesberg national park. The distance to the city centre of Rustenberg is about 12 km.
